Cereal Solar System

To kick off our exciting Science unit on Astronomy, we made the solar system out of cereal! This helped us to learn where Earth is located in the solar system and the distance between planets. We made predictions about the distances, created solar systems using fruit loops, Cheerios, and honeycomb cereal, and we used our math skills to calculate the real distances to compare with our predictions! One Cheerio represented 30 million miles!! Who knew that the planets could taste this good? :)

Check out pictures of the activity and hear from our student bloggers below!

The Solar System
I learned a lot about the solar system, I learned about the planets from the sun in order which are,Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune. The biggest planet is Jupiter. The hottest planet is Venus. WE did a cereal solar system and Ashton and I got to draw a picture of ours. We did cheerios for the miles which equaled 30miles, we did frout for the planets. We sang a song about the planets called the planets rap.
