Week of March 9th

Check out what is happening in room 402 this week!!


Ride the Weekly Wave:
Math-We will continue our unit on fractions this week as we practice comparing decimals. We are also looking at mean, median, and mode and units of measurement. Students need to be studying assigned pages in their MAP study guide *every night!* We will also have a measurements quiz this week.

Reading-We will continue exploring different genres of literature including tall tales and fables as we discuss the main idea, author’s purpose, and morals. We will also be reviewing and preparing for the upcoming MAP Reading test next week, and students need to be reviewing their study guide *every night!*
ELA/Writing-In Writer’s Workshop, we will be looking at “on-demand” writing through different strategies to best prepare for the upcoming ACT Inspire Writing Test. We will also practice using verb tenses and beging writing our own tall tales! 

Social Studies-We are continuing our unit on government this week as we learn about the Bill of Rights and citizenship.

Science- 3-2-1…BLAST OFF! We are finishing our Astronomy unit as we wonder and learn about what causes tides, shadows, and why do we use telescopes?? We will also have a quiz on moon phases and on shadows this week.

·       Friday-Shadows Quiz (*Study Science notes on shadows)
·       Friday-Units of Measurement Quiz (*Study sheet is also in MAP packet)

Homework for the Week:
(please refer to your child's agenda daily for more details-this is only an OUTLINE of what to expect):

·       Read 2 steps (30 minutes) for 100 BC and sign Reading Log *every* night
·       Study 15 minutes each every night for MAP study guides and sign log!
·       Lunar Log nightly (Mon-Thurs)

Upcoming Events:  
·       Tuesday, March 10th-Spring/Class Pictures…dress pretty! (*Reminder that this date was changed)
·       Friday, March 13th- We will have school this Friday due to snow make up days.
·       Reading MAP Testing-Thursday, March 12th
·       Math MAP Testing-Monday, March 23rd

**There is no written HW this week to give your child plenty of time to focus on studying for upcoming tests (*especially MAP), so make sure that she takes advantage of this time to study each night and gets plenty of rest to do her best and ACE that test!! J
