2/5 is greater than 2/12 because 5ths are greater than 12ths.
ReplyDeleteGreat answer, Allie! Wouldn't you rather share your favorite pizza with 5 friends and have bigger slices than share with 12 friends and have much smaller pieces??

ReplyDelete- top number is called numerator
- the line is the fraction bar
- bottom number is called denominator
- you can compare 2 fractions easily when the denominator is the same, but when the denominators are different, you need to do extra work
Excellent response Noor!
DeleteEquivalent Fractions are made up of parts and a whole. The whole is the bottom number which scientificly is the denominator and the parts of the whole the top number is the numerator. Here are some examples: 1/2 = 2/4 = 3/6=4/8.
ReplyDeleteWow! I love your response and examples!
Delete2/3 the numerator on top denominator on bottom . It's like a pie that you slice into 3 slices you color in 2 slices and it gives you a 1/2 of pie ..
ReplyDeleteGreat job, Chrissa! Just make sure that you don't change your fraction :) 2 out of 3 pieces of a pie is 2/3, and that is not the same as 1/2
Delete2/4 is equal to 1/2 it is the simplest fraction. The top number is the numerator and the bottom Is the denominator. If you had a pizza and you cut it in half it would 1/2 or if you cut it in half two ways it would be 2/4
ReplyDeleteWonderful response, Sarah! I love how you used the vocabulary simplest fraction :)
