Welcome Back! Week of January 5th-8th

Welcome back, mighty girls!! I hope that you had a wonderful and restful break with your friends and families! I had a great break spending time with family and cheering on the TIGERS win the Orange Bowl and head to the National Championship!!

I'm excited to be back in routine with my favorite girls! Here are a couple of pictures from our Christmas party and what we will doing in room 402 this week :)

Ride the Weekly Wave:
Math-We will introduce our FRACTIONS unit this week through hands-on manipulatives as we learn about equivalent fractions.

Reading-We will continue our unit on POETRY this week as we introduce poetry elements vocabulary, create “selfie” diamantes, and have poetry

ELA/Writing-In Writer’s Workshop, we will have mini-lessons on capitalization and quotation marks. Our writing focus will be connected with poetry as we write extended metaphors.  

Social Studies- We will finish learning about six key battles of the American Revolution and incorporate our poetry unit by writing haikus about each battle! We will test next week.

Science- We will start a new unit on LIGHT this week as we explore the basic properties of light with prisms and more!

 Homework for the Week:
(please refer to your child's agenda daily for more details-this is only an OUTLINE of what to expect):


·       **Graded papers signed/returned by Wednesday (sent home Tuesday)!!**
·       Fractions HW throughout the week
·       Christmas Reading Log due Wednesday!!
·       Read 2 steps (30 minutes) for 100 BC and sign Reading Log *every* night
·       Study every night for tests!

Anchor Down for Upcoming Tests:

·       Friday- Test on Equivalent fractions **Study fractions notes in Math NB
·       Study American Revolution Key Battles notes and map in SS notebook for test next week!!
·       No Math 4 Today this week

AHOY…Announcements Ahead!
·       Wednesday, Jan. 6th- Winter Reading Logs due!! **Add steps to regular log
·       SAVE THE DATE- Wednesday, Jan. 27th 10:00-11:00 AM **We are having our class Poetry CafĂ© in the Media Center at OES! All parents are invited. Look for an invitation letter going home soon!
