Week at a Glance-Week of January 25th-29th


Ride the Weekly Wave:
Math-We will continue our FRACTIONS unit this week as we look at adding and subtracting mixed numbers with regrouping. We will test this week.

Reading-We will finish our unit on Poetry as we test this week and have our Poetry Café on Wednesday!!

ELA/Writing-In Writer’s Workshop, we will have mini-lessons on homophones and verb tenses. Our writing focus will be connected with poetry as we finish writing extended metaphors and practice text dependent analysis.

Social Studies- We will begin learning about the Articles of Confederation this week!

Science- We will begin learning about animals and their environments to kick off our new PBL “Around the World in 40 Days.”  We are so excited to be skyping with zoo experts on Monday as our launch activity!

 Anchor Down for Upcoming Tests:


·       Monday- Science Test on Light **Study Light study guide, vocabulary cards, and other notes **Rescheduled from Friday
·       Thursday- Poetry Test *Review poetry collection notes in Reading NB
·       Friday- Math Test on Adding and Subtracting Fractions and Mixed Numbers **Review HW practice and math notes
·       Friday- Math 4 Today #24 Test
·       Next Tuesday- Homophones and Verb Tenses Test *Review notes in Writer’s Toolbox section of Writing NB

Homework for the Week:
(please refer to your child's agenda daily for more details-this is only an OUTLINE of what to expect):

·       **Graded papers signed/returned by Tuesday (sent home Monday)!!**
·       Fractions HW throughout the week
·       Practice Poetry Café poem every night to get ready for Wednesday
·       Read 2 steps (30 minutes) for 100 BC and sign Reading Log *every* night
·       Study every night for tests!

·       Wednesday, January 27th - 8:30 Third/Fourth Grade Second Nine Weeks Awards Day **rescheduled from Friday**
·        IT'S ALMOST HERE! Wednesday, Jan. 27th 10:00-11:00 AM **We are having our class Poetry Café in the Media Center at OES!
