'Twas the Week Before Christmas Break in Room 402

Ride the Weekly Wave:

Math-We will introduce fractions this week! 

Reading-We will continue our unit on POETRY this week as we have mini-lessons analyzing various Christmas poems and songs throughout the week!

ELA/Writing-In Writer’s Workshop, we will be finishing our tall tales, looking at sentence structure, and writing a Santa Clause story!

Social Studies-We will continue learning about six key battles of the American Revolution and incorporate our poetry unit by writing haikus about each battle!

Science- We will continue learn about what causes tides, constellations, and shadows through hands-on activities! We will also get to look through a telescope and have a Christmas lights STEM activity this week.

 

Anchor Down for Upcoming Tests:

·       Please review science notes on shadows for a possible *quiz* 

Homework for the Week:

(please refer to your child's agenda daily for more details-this is only an OUTLINE of what to expect):

·       Finish Tall Tale Monday night if needed

Phases of the MOOOOOOOON

In our Astronomy Science unit, we are learning all about the eight phases of the moon through demonstration models, songs, chants, oreos, and more!

1. New Moon
2. Waxing Crescent
3. First Quarter
4. Waxing Gibbous
5. Full Moon 
6. Waning Gibbous
7. Last Quarter
8. Waxing Cresent

A few tips to help you remember the phases of the moon...

• "The moon waxes in white as it grows on the right!"
• Ask your child to teach you the moon chant we learned in class!
• Remember to fill out your lunar log every night during the week!

We also made the moon phases out of Oreos for a fun way to practice making the moon phases!

We even have our own "Moon in the Room" that shows the moon going through each phase!

Reading-We will begin our new unit on POETRY this week as we have mini-lessons on analyzing various poems throughout the week!

ELA/Writing-In Writer’s Workshop, we will have mini-lessons on sentence structure and capitalization. We will write about our favorite holiday/winter memory and finish our tall tales. We will also have our class spelling bee this week.   

Social Studies- We will test this week on the Declaration of Independence. We will also learn about six key battles of the American Revolution and incorporate our poetry unit by writing haikus about each battle!

Science- We will learn about what causes tides, constellations, and shadows through hands-on activities!

When you are studying for your Declaration of Independence test this week, watch this video to review! Watch for key images, people, and phrases from the DOI!

Here are the four parts of the DOI that students need to remember!

4.Resolution (conclusion)
