Week at a Glance-November 2nd-6th

Ride the Weekly Wave:

Math-We will continue practicing strategies for dividing smaller numbers through guided math stations! We will practice how to divide with remainders and introduce long division.  

Reading-We will continue reading Wonder as our mentor text for our Choose Kind PBL as we focus on skills such as character traits, summarizing, and inferences within guided reading stations. We will be filming our script to spread the word about the CCA organization that was inspired by Wonder to raise money for children with facial deformities and their families!! We will test on vocabulary from Wonder this week.

ELA/Writing-In Writer’s Workshop, we will be having mini-lessons on how to use commas. In a writing station, we will be writing letters to R.J. Palacio, the author of Wonder.

Social Studies- We will review and test on the original 13 English Colonies (NE, Middle, and Southern). We will also introduce slavery v indentured servants and the Triangular Trade through hands-on activities.

Science- REACH FOR THE STARS! We will introduce our new unit on Astronomy this week through inquiry-based, hands-on activities such as making a “Cereal Solar System,” meteorite drops *how it relates to kindness to integrate with our PBL*, and MORE!

Anchor Down for Upcoming Tests:

·       Thursday- Wonder Vocabulary Test (Study Wonder TIPS Chart #3 in Reading notebook and note cards made for HW)

·       Friday- Social Studies Test on 13 Original English Colonies *Study NE, Middle, Southern notes and picture chart in SS notebook

·       **Due to a short week, we will not have Math 4 Today. M4T will pick back up *next* week!

Homework for the Week:

(please refer to your child's agenda daily for more details-this is only an OUTLINE of what to expect):

·       **Graded papers signed/returned by Wednesday (We are out Tuesday)!!**

·       Monday-Make Wonder vocab. cards due Wednesday

·       Read 2 steps (30 minutes) for 100 BC and sign Reading Log *every* night

·       Study Multiplication flashcards (missed fast facts) or practice facts on Multiplication Times Table App 10 minutes *every night* & sign log
