Week of December 1st

Welcome back!! I hope that all of you had a restful Thanksgiving with family and friends!

Ride the Weekly Wave:
Math-We will begin our new unit on fractions this week as we look at visual models, hands-on materials, and number lines to help us with representing and ordering fractions!

Reading-On Monday, we will discuss our ACTION PLANS for our culminating assessment of our “Tread Lightly” PBL-look for a letter going home with ideas and a pledge. We will also be reading articles about eco-friendly inventions to practice paraphrasing, summarizing, and presenting. Furthermore, we will have our very own Socratic Seminar in the Loggers v. Environmentalist logging debate using our research!
ELA/Writing-In Writer’s Workshop, we are practicing how to make sentences more interesting by using commas. We will integrate these lessons with Social Studies as we continue writing a 5-paragraph essay to King George III about being a Patriot or a Loyalist.

Social Studies-Check out our class blog from the Boston Massacre crime scene!! This week, we will continue studying the causes of the American Revolution as we create a puzzle piece timeline of the major causes and practice for our test on Friday.

Science-We will continue our unit on light through inquiry through refraction stations, absorption hands-on activities, and a scavenger hunt to find transparent, translucent, and opaque objects in the classroom! We will test on the light unit next Friday.
