Week of November 3rd

Check out what's happening this week in room 402!!

Ride the Weekly Wave:
Math-We will continue practicing basic division strategies with smaller numbers at the beginning of the week, including area model, drawing pictures, repeated subtraction, and standard division. We will practice division with larger numbers by the end of the week.

Reading-We will continue using non-fiction text features in the War of the Woods: The Pacific Northwest Logging Argument book. Students will use evidence from BOTH sides of the argument-loggers vs. environmentalists.  We will be introducing new vocabulary with our TIPS chart and looking at and creating our own infographics!

ELA/Writing-In Writer’s Workshop, we are practicing how to make sentences more interesting by using conjunctions. We will integrate these lessons with reading as we begin writing an argument for or against logging based on War of the Woods.

Social Studies-We will begin learning about slavery, indentured servants, and the Triangular Trade. To learn about the Triangular Trade, we will be doing a QR code interactive simulation!

Science-We will continue our Animals unit as we learn about how organisms affect their environment. To go along with our PBL, we will be learning ways that humans negatively and positively affect the air, water, and trees through videos and articles. We will also begin learning about the distinct environments through a nonfiction article scavenger hunt and pen pal writing activity.
