Beatnik Poetry Cafe...Can you dig it??!

HEY DADDY-O! This past week, the girls were the first out of 4th grade  classes who participated in the first ever Poetry Café at Oakland Elementary!!

Students recited poems that they wrote themselves or by famous poets that we have been reading the past few weeks during our poetry unit. Many of the girls are very creative and chose to write their own! Limericks were a popular choice because they are humorous poems. We also integrated the 1950's Beatnik Theme so the students and parents would get the real feel of a  Beatnik Poetry Cafe theme. The entire class wore black and we decorated the school library with famout poet posters, black out curtains, table cloths, and treats! Thank you to Peyton for designing our programs :)

Thanks so much to everyone who attended, sent items in, and helped with the set up. A special thank you to Mrs. Moore and Mrs. Sharick for their hard work in setting up our Poetry Cafe!

The girls did a WONDERFUL job, and they worked very hard on writing, memorizing, and presenting their poems! It will be an experience they will never forget!

SNAPS for these outstanding poets! :)
