Cereal Solar System

How far do you think Earth is from the Sun??

700 miles? 10,000 miles? 5,000 miles? 1,000,000 miles?? ...these were some of the girls' predictions!

To learn more about the distance that Earth is from the Sun and between other planets in our solar system, we made our very own solar systems out of cereal!

Honeycomb=the sun
Fruit Loops=planets
Cheerios=distance

*One cheerio= 30,000,000 miles!!

That means Earth is 90 million miles from the Sun! Whoah that's a lot!! -Katherine

After we made our cereal solar systems, we drew and did math to figure out how far planets were from the sun and each other in our wonder journals. I never knew how far they are! It was crazy! -Zion

  1. Do you have an electronic version of the sheet students used to create the necklaces? I would love to use with my kiddos.
